The ASEAN organization has taken a number of steps in combating cyber terrorism through a few ways namely by adopting a convention, having ministerial meeting and seminars on cyber terrorism. Listed below are some of the examples of the actions taken by ASEAN.
On July 2009, the (ASEAN) Regional Forum or ARF adopted the ARF Work Plan for Counterterrorism and Transnational Crime. The main objective was not only to concentrate on counter terrorism and transnational crimes but also on cyber security and cyber terrorism prevention to deter and prevent the misuse of the Internet by terrorists or terrorist groups, including recruitment, campaign and financial transfers.
The ASEAN Convention on Counter Terrorism (ACCT) came into force on 27th May 2011 while the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime was established on 1997 and is done on every two years. The last meeting was held in Indonesia on October 2011. Apart from that the ASEAN Regional Forum too held a couple of seminars on cyber terrorism on 2004 and 2005 in which information and ideas on cyber terrorism were shared among member countries and to cooperate each other in addressing cyber-related threats.
